Lover of Low Creatures feat. JOY MA

Lovers of Low Creatures is a coming-of-age tale about a black, mixed-race disabled girl living in a forest with her white mother. Magical shadow creatures and East-African inspired rituals are an integral part of this work. NEVE is the creator and writer of LOLC. JOY MA is creating the soundscape, contributing original musical work, singing, and dancing for the production. All music in featured video is composed and produced by JOY MA. Vocals are by JOY MA as well. JOY MA is also doing movement work along with NEVE behind the scrim in the video. This excerpt was a part of the “i wanna be with you everywhere” performance festival produced in collaboration with the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and showcased at Performance Space New York.

I wanna be with you everywhere is a gathering of, by, and for disabled artists and writers and anyone who wants to get with us for a series of crip meet-ups, performances, readings and other social spaces of surplus, abundance and joy.  It refuses policies of individuation and inclusion in favor of (and in the flavor of) whatever disability aesthetics has in bodymind. We won’t know what this is ‘til it shows us, but we do know that disability communities don’t only make art about disability. ;) [winky face emoticon] (http://arika.org.uk/programming/i-wanna-be-you-everywhere)
